Pros

Health Catalyst leadership truly cares about their employees. I have seen that time and time again in the five years that I have been at Health Catalyst. The CEO is always fighting for the employees and you know it's genuine. The benefits are very comparable for other companies that are known for offering "great benefits". The company does not work you to death, which in return gives you more desire to do an amazing job for them. 95+% of the people that work here are amazing individuals who I truly love working with on a daily basis. The healthcare industry in general is one where you will find great individuals to work with. I love working with clients and those who are on the front lines. The mission of the company is very noble and makes coming to work everyday easy. Health Catalyst makes an effort for their employees. Are there a lot of things that could be improved? Yes. But they are open to feedback and they try to implement changes based on what they are hearing to make the company a "best place to work". I think they have done a great company and they truly have established themselves as a best place to work.

Cons

We currently don't have a 401k match because of the economic turbulence from COVID, which I think most employees understand the situation and are okay with it. The thing that bothers me is I've heard leadership say "We have to earn the right to bring this back.". That rubs me the wrong way a bit. What does "earn the right" really mean? If it means we have to be profitable, then that makes me frustrated. We were not profitable before COVID and we still had 401k match, so I don't like hearing that we need to "earn the right". It feels like leadership may be leveraging the COVID card a little too much in our goal to get to profitability (with the 401k, and in other areas). Maybe the pressures of being a publicly traded company now? It just feels a bit off. The 401k going away is something that I can live with. The messaging is frustrating, but not as much as this next point I will bring up. It's the fact that I am seeing talented team members get promotions, taking on a lot more responsibility, stress, work hours, etc, and they are not getting compensated at all for it. Yet on the other hand, I'm reading through my Motivosity email updates and I see that we are hiring a lot of new employees. I don't understand it one bit. How are we hiring new employees, yet not giving increased compensation to those that are taking on more responsibilities and stress to their work? It makes zero sense to me. I was texting one of these individuals who is absolutely swamped due to a recent promotion, I was shocked to hear the amount of hours he was working and it just makes me mad that there is no additional compensation for it. The interesting thing about this text conversation was that this individual literally brought compensation up and then sent me a link of a company that pays the deserved salary for the new amount of work and expertise required..(aka this individual was already toying with the idea of leaving HC, very sad). I don't think HC is doing their employees a favor here. I think it's very noble and great to not have any layoffs due to COVID, thank you leadership!! But there comes a point, in my opinion, that if HC doesn't take care of their great employees the way they deserve, they will eventually leave the company. Those that leave will be the great team members and those that stay will be the ones that are not so great. So, in summary, it's great we had no layoffs, my fear is that if this drags out too long, we are going to see an exit of amazing talent, and then be left with the not so amazing talent. I just don't want things to backfire on Health Catalyst. Compensation is not what most individuals value most in the priority list, I promise. But when an individual feels they are not compensated correctly, the compensation topic surfaces to the #1 priority and sticks out like a sore thumb. I hope HC begins to pay those individuals that have received promotions, it's the only fair thing to do, especially when we are hiring new employees and growing. Lastly, I feel like Health Catalyst is a very "fit in" culture. To the point where I feel like we don't get a lot of healthy debate that takes the company to the next level. I have heard of individuals being blackballed time and time again because they voice their opinion. To me, differing opinions and experience is what diversity truly is. We don't have this like we should. Health Catalyst meetings are very "agreeable" if you will. You don't ever see someone challenging someone else's thought process. I think this is due to the culture of Health Catalyst. Everyone gets along and it's great. But I do think we would be a better company if there was a culture of challenging the status quo and not fearing you have to be black-balled for it.

Thank you for your feedback, and for your service to the company these past 5-7 years. I find all of your feedback resonant and insightful and important for us to pay attention to. Per this morning's email and per our ATM discussion later today, we have been taking action to reinstate some important positive elements for all team members and for those teammates who have received promotions during the pandemic. I apologize that our messaging and communication regarding the 401(k) benefit was less than ideal -- and per this morning's email, I don't view this benefit as something that should be reduced under normal circumstances, but rather that this is an important component of an above-market benefits package, which is our long-term objective. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the importance of debate and a diversity of perspectives being shared as we strive to make data-informed decisions. I find this absolutely crucial and strive to encourage this debate and discussion, to enable the best ideas to rise to the top to help us accomplish our mission and be successful. We need courageous transparency at every level at the company, and we'll continue to encourage this, absolutely. We'll continue to emphasize this in our training to every people manager at Health Catalyst. Thank you again for your many contributions to our company's success, for your trust, and for sharing this important feedback. We will continue to strive, every day, to keep team members at the center of everything we do, and for me personally to prioritize the team member experience and engagement as my #1 priority, ahead of even client success or investor returns, because our team members drive our clients' success which then drives strong financial performance. Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
