Pros

Health Catalyst has a great culture, a really positive mission, and leadership does what they say they’re going to do. Benefits are great, openness and transparency with team members is a refreshing change of pace from anywhere else I’ve worked, and the company really tries to do better, including sharing these reviews directly with team members and addressing any constructive feedback publicly.

Cons

This year has been a really rough year at Catalyst, at least in my department. A change in leadership, and games being played between departments, led to lots of starts and stops, lots of attrition from people unwilling to weather the storm, and a big lack of trust in our department head. The CEO loves and breathes transparency as much as possible, but our department feels like we’re still in the dark, nearly five months after a major shift and everyone asking for more detail, more information, it has been like pulling teeth to understand what our jobs might be in the next three months. Leadership is aware of this lack, and has promised to do better, meanwhile individual contributors still find themselves wondering if/when they will get real information, and team leads are left guessing and reading tea leaves to figure out how to keep developers occupied. I’m sure the new cloud-based platform will be great, but the way it rolled out (over the top of another cloud based platform) has left a sour taste in the mouths of an entire business unit.

Thanks for your contributions for more than 5 years to our company’s success. While I’m glad to hear that you’ve experienced some level of consistency with our cultural values and operating principles, I am sorry that we have fallen short specifically with your department. Communication through change is hard, but that’s not an excuse for behavior you’ve said you’ve witnessed. I hope these items have resolved since you’ve written this review (sorry for my delay in responding!). But, if not, I would love to understand more about your situation specifically and how we can improve. Please set up time to discuss with me or our Chief People Officer, Linda Llewellyn.

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
