Pros

Very few other than the joy of knowing you touched the lives of the residents in a very positive way.

Cons

The people in charge of overseeing the facility dietary managers don't have the appropriate experience to be in charge. In my case my district manager while having a CDM doesn't appear to have a degree. Worst of all is how the people in charge have no basis in food production or service what so ever. The training that is offered to new managers is almost non existent. The MIT program is a joke. Most new dietary managers are thrown into a facility with very little training and almost no support from the main company. Complaints about hostile work environment seem to be swept under the carpet by upper level executives. The company makes all kinds of promises with very little follow through. The most important thing that a dietary manager can remember is that residents have very little to look forward to, usually just two things, activities and the food. It is our job as managers to make that experience the best possible. HCSG has forgotten this and seems to view the relationship between the facility and the provider, HCSG as an advisarial one.

Pros

coming to work and greeting residents and some of the staff, that helps me through the day, laughing and joking around, just so I don't think about the negativity that comes with working for hcsg and working in a autumn lake building

Cons

working understaffed meaning 3 and half housekeepers, is not gonna cut it and people go on vacation or sick or just off.. the slack is passed down on us and more so on the manager, the company culture uses him and he can never take time off because he's filling in 100 percent of the time.
