Pros
Good benefits, generous PTO accrual and carryover, great 401(k) match, pay is competitive for a non-profit health insurer
Cons
Honestly hate coming here every day but I need a paycheck. Healthfirst has some amazing, dedicated, highly intelligent people, who are passionate about the mission and members. The biggest issue here is LEADERSHIP at the highest levels of the organization, or the lack there of it. Orders and directives are issued on high from Mount Olympus with a lack of clarity or direction. (Think: I want XYZ to happen! Go make it happen and get it down tomorrow!) If a lower level employee (or as leaders more commonly refer to them as – Resources – because this place really is a post-apocalyptic dystopian nightmare) tries to surface concerns or explain processes, they are quickly dismissed. Worse yet there’s a terrible case of opposite day – direction you may given one day will do a complete 180 the next, leaving you to question your sanity. But you’re not crazy, the people leading your department are woefully out of touch and have no understanding of how to get things done in the 21 century. Fairly sure the last time one of the VPs in my department rolled up his sleeves to understand how basic processes and technology work was during the Nixon administration (enough said). So, there’s no hope for guidance, just constant berating for not having a crystal ball to understand the SVPs ‘vision,’ which changes daily. Then, when you’re totally on the ropes and utterly demoralized, you’re docked for a lack of ‘vision’ or ‘creativity.’ Healthfirst used to be an amazing place to work with great colleagues and great environment to not only learn and grow professionally, but to also feel like you were contributing to something bigger. However, with all the toxic, political non-sense, it’s hard to keep sight of that.
