Pros
- Low stress - Good/flexible hours and remote working (even before pandemic) - Good spot to start out out of school or with little experience for someone wanting to get into the analytics field - learning SQL, Tableau, and some python/R (if you want)
Cons
- Mediocre comp and basically no bonus - Vertical mobility appears to be a challenge for certain groups in the analytics department - Certain more 'advanced' groups try to do data science projects without any real knowledge of the caveats in the data and appear to provide little actual value..... constant 'proof of concept' projects without real results that a business can actually interpret - Most of the data is not very well known (legacy data system) and can be messy - Most of what is actually usable for business units is basic reporting and so your ability to do real complex AND meaningful analytics work is very limited
