Pros

I made about 1,000 in commission per week pre-Covid, plus a decent hourly. My manager and development leads were pretty great, and my coworkers were all hardworking. I learned a lot here. The old department head did his best but couldn’t hold sales together through the pandemic.

Cons

Cut throat sales environment. It was all about getting the best events so you could make your 7 sale minimum for the week and not get fired. Plus, if you got a good event, you had the potential of making a grand in a day, so things were competitive. Very sales goal oriented. Also, during COVID when we couldn’t sell in person- we were forced to listen to an awful trainer named Charles who told us to sell to our friends and family, as well as people we hadn’t spoken to in years. I was told to pull out my middle school yearbook and call those numbers. Then, we were supposed to ask them for at least ten numbers. Worse, they asked us salespeople to help with customer service. Which would have been great to ride out the pandemic- but we were laid off after only a few months because we were from sales and only temporary. Had the option to return to sales, but the pandemic made it nearly impossible. Out of a couple hundred salespeople, only a few were successful and this is because they likely violated company sales policy. THIS TOMFOOLERY HAPPENED EVEN THOUGH THE STOCK PRICE DOUBLED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC! Layoffs when the company is doing awesome? Not very nice. Every Friday we had fireside chats on Zoom- basically two girls who talked about themselves for an hour and tried to raise morale while being incredibly insensitive to the horrible position the company had put hundreds of people in. Also, super racist company. Department heads were all white males. Branch heads were all pretty white women. The only two black girls in my branch were fired before COVID even happened. One was fired because she was in college, the other because a development lead (an alcoholic who is incredibly racist and says the n-word often with a hard r) said she was “rude” and “tried to steal a sale”.

Pros

Flexible hybrid environment. In-office requirement is 50% of the month, but there is significant autonomy in how those days are scheduled (eg. you can decide to condense your in-office days the first 2 weeks of the month, and work remotely for the next 2 weeks).

Cons

1- Compensation (particularly base salary) is significantly below market. Reliance on RSU as a major component of the compensation package is problematic, given the company’s stock has severely plummeted over the last 5 years (and continues to do so). 2- Professional development is virtually non-existent. Internal promotions are rare (even for top performers) and highly political. 3- Constant reorganizations and frequent layoffs. It is difficult to feel secure in your position when entire teams are being phased out every few months. 4- Toxic and fear-driven culture. There is a prevalent culture of backchannel feedback and a palpable, constant sense of fear regarding job security and retaliation. 5- Unsustainable business model, still. Service is overly reliant on discounting and promotions, which has negatively impacted brand perception and long-term customer value. Path to sustainable growth is unclear. Leadership also doesn't seem to know what to do, as they frequently pivot strategy, with new directions introduced every few months (if not every few weeks). This lack of consistency creates a sense of instability and leaves teams feeling as though the company lacks a cohesive, long-term vision. 6- Leadership tone. Leaders often lack respect for both employees and the customer base (it is common for them to make derogatory and insulting comments in business meetings about customers who cancel their service).
