Pros

Hard working direct care workers who make the best with what very little resources they have left.

Cons

Short staffed among all units on a weekly basis. RNs regularly caring for unsafe patient loads, when brought up to management one RN was told "be careful using that safe word." No more respiratory therapy on midnights for general practice units so RNs are left absorbing the work. PCA's are responsible for blood work and daily weights on 15+ patients (on a good day) without bed scales. No more house docs on midnights, only way to get a provider to see your patient is to call a code. Tele unit nurses care for 6+ patients, some of which should be in stepdown or ICU. Recently laid off longstanding and loyal case managers and posted contingent case management positions. Senior leadership does not welcome staff input and when concerns are brought up, managers are told to stop being negative. Zero QI or EBP initiatives or opportunities for staff.

Pros

Friendly, safe and trusting environment, leaders that listen, lots of opportunities for training and development.

Cons

Inconsistent between different hospitals and leaders. Health insurance is awful and expensive. Bonuses only go to leaders, even though frontline staff are doing the actual work.
