Pros
There are many good people within IT, salaries seem decent for IT professionals, should always have work to do. Most positions are still all or mostly remote and will likely remain that way. HFHS insourced their IT vendors 6 or so years ago, so it's not likely a great outsourcing of IT will occur for a few more years. HFHS does seem to care about their employees.
Cons
IT staff has been trimmed in last year, some voluntary, some not. Would like to think IT can't be cut any further at this point. Opportunities for moving into lead/manager/director roles are limited. IT staff tends to stay in the role they were hired into for many years. Very little cross-team or cross-department career moves for IT staff. Technical and team/department environment is complex and navigating how to get something done can be difficult for new staff, as well as current staff. HFHS and most health systems were hit financially hard by covid losses and will take time to recover.
