You get laid off and all connections die... - Equipment Sales Specialist Henry Schein Employee Review

Pros

This company once claimed to "value" and take pride in being a Family First organization, but the reality appears far different. Over the past six quarters, this company has laid off more than 500 employees—far exceeding similar actions taken by competitors like Patterson Dental and Benco Dental. While offering swift severance packages and expressing formal "condolences," the company suggests that other roles are available during its so-called "restructuring" process—a term that often masks widespread downsizing. However, securing one of these positions requires employees to reapply, effectively disregarding their years of hard work and reducing them to just another candidate in the pool. Attempts to seek guidance from former management often lead nowhere. Some managers are too fearful of jeopardizing their own positions, while others remain detached and self-serving. Unless you're part of an inner circle or have strong familial connections to someone in a director role, advancing within the organization is unlikely.

Pros

Henry Schein has a genuinely collaborative culture where teamwork and respect are part of daily work life. Leadership is supportive and encourages open communication, professional development, and continuous learning. There are great opportunities to grow your skill set, especially through cross functional work with teams across pricing, product data, sales, and operations. Work–life balance is solid, the company has remote opportunities and is a respected leader in the healthcare industry. I also appreciate the company’s commitment to community outreach and social responsibility—it reinforces that we’re working for a mission-driven organization.

Cons

Like most large organizations, processes can sometimes feel slow due to the number of teams involved. Change management can take time, and cross-department alignment requires patience. However, leadership has been taking steps to improve workflows and increase efficiency.
