Pros

Being able to talk to people all over the country and helping them find the right college program is an awesome experience. If you're a good advisor who truly cares about your students, then it is very rewarding. You can actually help potential students to plan for their future career. People call in with an end-goal, but they may have the wrong idea of how to get there. You get the benefit of being able to change their life by helping them choose the right path to go where they want to go. It is enriching. The education offered by the school is one you can stand behind. This isn't a fly-by-night online college that doesn't actually care. The classes are not easy; they are just right. Because the school started out (and remains) a physical campus, there is a long history for the institution that you can also stand proud about. The owner/president/founding family is involved, which is wonderful. There is an open floor to speak to higher up people if you want to. Compensation is very good, or at least it was when I worked there. Hard-work pays off. Room for advancement early on. Ability to have fun and be creative with your team.

Cons

Some high up people in the HR department were awful and condescending, which was very troublesome if you did need to go to HR (which usually isn't necessary). There was a push to move towards hardcore education sales, so much so that some advisors were knowingly pushing through people who they knew they were setting up for failure. Forced group "fun" activities were sometimes daunting. Frequent changes of teams were meant to promote a broader connection to co-workers, but it really resulted in chaos and stress when having to pack up and learn how to deal with all new people ever 6 months (just when you had developed a good rapport with the last team).

Pros

Everyone is very pleasant to work with.

Cons

Because of the Wisconsin nice, nobody will ever say what they mean and will smile while escalating small issues. They are very new age psycho-babble, meetings and 1:1's are more like encounter group analysis and leadership is so busy trying to maintain a Kumbaya culture that meetings accomplish nothing and when you push back on practices that are not the best or challenge a leader you are automatically on the blacklist. Also if you dont show for the Summerfest thing, you can kiss your career goodbye. TBH I was relieved to leave, during the last few months it was probably obvious I was extremely frustrated with the way the dept. was run like a new age retreat.
