A Nightmare Company - Customer Services Representative Highmark Employee Review

I worked for Highmark for three years and finally could not handle the stress anymore. I am currently in counseling to rebalance my life after how horribly Highmark affected my mental well-being. First and foremost, this is not a family friendly company. If your child is ill or a family member passes and you need to leave work or call off, you will receive something called an occurrence. Once you receive so many, you will be fired without question. They are consistently changing their expectations of you. In the last three years, they have changed their metrics for measuring success four different times. This caused many employee firings and miscommunications because we never understood what was expected of us because the expectations changed so frequently. Mind you, i quit of my own will. I was not fired. The supervisors often threaten you to make you feel insecure in your job and make you work harder. They say things such as "if you miss work for the funeral, you'll be fired," or "I understand that you needed to use the restroom but we needed you to be on the phones and if it happens again, you'll be terminated. " No one above you is held to the strict standards that you are held to. Often, a supervisor would tell you how to respond to a difficult customer, but if the customer requested to speak to that supervisor, they would throw you under the bus and say that you mishandled the situation after handling it the way they told you to. This happened OFTEN. Human resources is an absolute joke. In my case and many others, they close open inquiries or ignore them for weeks on end. For example, I had inquired to them about an issue that I was having. I contacted them 4 times and they never responded. I had to reach out to a supervisor in human resources to get any answers from them. Highmark does not care about their customers or employees. They find every loop hole and reason to not pay for their claims. Overall, they are absolutely awful to work for. They don't care about you. You are simply a number that can be replaced. Lastly, you can be an excellent employee in every aspect and still be treated like you are worthless. For example, you can have met all 6 of their metrics they require to be met and have excellent ratings from customers, but they will still tear you apart. On the day that I finally gave notice because they pushed me too far, I had perfect scores, excellent customer ratings, and no ERRORS (mistakes made during phone calls) in 4 months. However, my supervisor decided to threaten my job because I didn't sound "compassionate" enough when I talked on the phone. The turnover rate is excessive because employees are treated so poorly. In my department. We hired and lost over 20 employees in less than 2 years. There is nearly no opportunity for growth. You can apply for 50 jobs within the company and they will not even consider you for an interview. Don't waste your time working here. I would rather work at McDonald's for the rest of my life making min wage than ever work for Highmark again.
