Pros
Can be ok work, meet lots of great people, can be fun at times and the amazing employee discount at hundreds of properties.
Cons
There are lots. From my experience, individuals treat hotel staff worse than most other service industries, it is incredible how dehumanizing some can be. Also, as the title says, the hotels are franchised. The demands from some owners can be extortionate with a pittance for compensation. Huge point to be warry of when concidering a holiday inn express to work at. Also the hours of work are scattered and can destroy work life balance, as your schedual will vary from nights to days to overnights to half shifts to split shifts and any other schedualing permutation that can be come up with. Also you are expected to work holidays and every weekend and it's a battle to get time off (even if they tell you differently, it's all about how much your manager likes you.) The turn over rate for guest services staff is incredible which only proves the point of how bad it can be. Also the wages for front desk staff are aweful. The responsibility placed on the front desk staff, combined with the stress of the job, topped with with the conciderable number of people who veiw you as a floor mat to wipe their crap on, make the compensation make the wages a very insulting joke.
