Hard work, low pay, NO Breaks! - Sales Associate Holiday Stationstores Employee Review

Pros

Free drinks while you work and a fuel discount

Cons

You work really hard for very low pay. My store manager said "well since you still have so much experience I could pay you 8.25 an hour" (she made it sound like she was doing me a favor) I made 9.25 at a small time deli before this job. You do not get breaks unless you are smoker. The smokers seem like they are always taking breaks. I have NEVER worked for a company that does not schedule a person's break or at least require a person to take a break when time allows. I thought this was against the law? How do they get away with this? This place makes me feel guilty for even going to the bathroom. Furthermore, the other employees here are stressed out all the time. They seem to worry about really silly things like the cigs are not stacked perfectly under the counter I do not understand this cause the customer cannot see it! Or one thing that happens out of their control (like the truck being late) can send them into a complete tissy and ruin everything. All of my co-workers are on food stamps and seem to have really hard lives outside of work. No one seems to like working here. I took this job for something to do while looking for a job in my field (a real job) since I am a recent college grad. I cannot get a "real" job fast enough.

Pros

Everyone is so friendly and helpful, support from supervisors is amazing. I enjoy every single person I work with and I love coming in to work and seeing everyone. Many people at the office have been here 20+ years, so it truly feels like a work family. My direct supervisor is a big advocate on having a good work/life balance which is great.

Cons

We are required to be in office 3 days a week, which is only a con because I have a long commute.
