Pros

There are smart, well-intentioned individual contributors here and there.

Cons

The primary issue is leadership and organizational structure within the Product organization. Decision-making is highly centralized and top-down, with limited input from teams closer to the work. Accountability is uneven, and when initiatives struggle, responsibility often falls on individuals rather than on strategy, structure, or leadership decisions. Process is inconsistent and frequently changing. Teams, priorities, and reporting lines shift often, which makes it difficult for anyone to develop deep domain knowledge or long-term ownership. The constant movement creates confusion and slows progress, despite high expectations for delivery. Innovation is limited. Much of the work focuses on incremental changes rather than meaningful improvements, and initiatives positioned as forward-looking or “AI-driven” feel basic and underdeveloped compared to what competitors are doing. The overall approach feels reactive rather than strategic. The product reflects these challenges. It lacks cohesion and polish relative to competitors, and usability issues persist. Customer growth appears driven more by market churn than by strong differentiation, which raises questions about long-term retention. Compensation is another factor to consider. Pay generally falls below market averages for comparable roles, which is difficult to reconcile with the level of pressure, responsibility, and pace expected. For those looking for strong leadership, clear accountability, stable teams, competitive pay, and a more mature product culture, it will likely be a frustrating experience.

Thank you for writing this in such detail. Feedback on decision-making structure, accountability at the leadership level, and compensation is not something we can respond to with a template. We hear the specific concerns raised and will share this with the right leaders. We appreciate the candor. Please connect with the People Team if you would like to continue the conversation. -Housecall Pro People Team

Pros

Great people below executive level that want to do their best work. Full remote work. Working with customers that actually make a difference in the world.

Cons

Hustle culture without the hustle pay. Way below market salary but executives expect top company output. Fear based. Executives pivot every week, if not multiple times a day and it creates immense thrash. CTO is completely disconnected from day to day work, talks in abstract most of the time, and when they do mention something about actual work, it's completely disconnected from the reality of people doing the work. Top talent has been steadily leaving the company. Process is whatever the executives decide that week. The current product is mediocre at best and most attempts from talented people to make it better either are ignored or when agreed upon, the rug gets pulled out from underneath a couple months later when the executives get cold feet. If you want to work at a company and make a difference, this is not the place to do it. Promotions and pay increases are non-existent unless you work 14+ hour days, amplify whatever the current executive flavor of the week is, and put your head down and just execute on someone else's poorly planned ideas. Everyone is pretty miserable currently and most people are only still there because the current job market is not great.

We're sorry aspects of your experience haven't reflected what we strive for, particularly around compensation and direction consistency. How pay aligns with expectations and how strategic shifts are communicated are concerns we want to understand better. We'd love to hear more; please reach out to your manager, the People Team, or any senior leader you're comfortable speaking with. -Housecall Pro People Team
