Pros

Most people at the IC level are smart and great to work with.

Cons

Over half the product team has left in the last year or so and everyone else is fleeing in droves. C-level leadership does not know the first thing about how the product works. There is no opportunity for advancement. Priorities shift with no warning and product managers are held responsible when poor engineering code results in incidents. Oh, and you're also underpaid with only six annual holidays and no 401k match. It's a toxic culture of shifting priorities. People are frequently fired without notice or previous poor performance records. There is no announcement when this happens. You message someone and see they have been deactivated. All the positive reviews are from new employees who get rewards points after posting a review from onboarding.

Product work at HCP moves fast and the bar is high. Compensation is benchmarked against market data, and the benefits structure is reviewed as the business scales. Incidents are owned cross-functionally: product and engineering share accountability by design. Ambitious team members who want to shape a category-defining product find a lot to build here. -Housecall Pro People Team

Pros

Great people below executive level that want to do their best work. Full remote work. Working with customers that actually make a difference in the world.

Cons

Hustle culture without the hustle pay. Way below market salary but executives expect top company output. Fear based. Executives pivot every week, if not multiple times a day and it creates immense thrash. CTO is completely disconnected from day to day work, talks in abstract most of the time, and when they do mention something about actual work, it's completely disconnected from the reality of people doing the work. Top talent has been steadily leaving the company. Process is whatever the executives decide that week. The current product is mediocre at best and most attempts from talented people to make it better either are ignored or when agreed upon, the rug gets pulled out from underneath a couple months later when the executives get cold feet. If you want to work at a company and make a difference, this is not the place to do it. Promotions and pay increases are non-existent unless you work 14+ hour days, amplify whatever the current executive flavor of the week is, and put your head down and just execute on someone else's poorly planned ideas. Everyone is pretty miserable currently and most people are only still there because the current job market is not great.

We're sorry aspects of your experience haven't reflected what we strive for, particularly around compensation and direction consistency. How pay aligns with expectations and how strategic shifts are communicated are concerns we want to understand better. We'd love to hear more; please reach out to your manager, the People Team, or any senior leader you're comfortable speaking with. -Housecall Pro People Team
