Pros

I've known the founders of HouseCall for a long time. I worked with them when they were all at Qualcomm and have kept up with their progress since they first began building HouseCall. I consulted with them for the last year, and recently came onboard full time to help them continue to grow at their ridiculous pace. The first thing that impressed me the most when I began interviewing to possibly come internal to the company was that every single person that you'd meet was beaming with raw intellectual horsepower. Everyone here is brilliant, pleasant, and super hard working. I've worked in startups for a decade and haven't ever seen this stacked of a roster. The team here is absolutely amazing. If you're looking for an early-stage tech company in San Diego to make a bet on to progress your personal development, look no further.

Cons

Nope. Honestly, this place is incredible. If there were cons to working here, I'd have kept running my own company instead.

Your review is particularly interesting because of the longevity of your relationship with the Founders. It's one thing to have a few weeks or a month of two of insight, but it's a wholly different perspective when you've seen consistent behavior over time. You are right, the founding team is exceptionally bright and they've put in the 10,000 hours. And then some. It's great that you've joined the company. We are always seeking smart, hard-working, curious people. We want to hire better than we are. In every position that we consider, we want smarter and more capable in their area of expertise than what we might be able to contribute ourselves. That is our path to growth and success. Welcome aboard.

Pros

Great people below executive level that want to do their best work. Full remote work. Working with customers that actually make a difference in the world.

Cons

Hustle culture without the hustle pay. Way below market salary but executives expect top company output. Fear based. Executives pivot every week, if not multiple times a day and it creates immense thrash. CTO is completely disconnected from day to day work, talks in abstract most of the time, and when they do mention something about actual work, it's completely disconnected from the reality of people doing the work. Top talent has been steadily leaving the company. Process is whatever the executives decide that week. The current product is mediocre at best and most attempts from talented people to make it better either are ignored or when agreed upon, the rug gets pulled out from underneath a couple months later when the executives get cold feet. If you want to work at a company and make a difference, this is not the place to do it. Promotions and pay increases are non-existent unless you work 14+ hour days, amplify whatever the current executive flavor of the week is, and put your head down and just execute on someone else's poorly planned ideas. Everyone is pretty miserable currently and most people are only still there because the current job market is not great.
