Pros
Absolutely nothing good about working here.
Cons
Houser Shoes is a company founded on emotionally abusing their employees while maintaining an inflated ego and complete lack of understanding and common sense. Not only do they severely underpay their employees, but they make them do work they never agreed to do. Those who spent years getting their degrees in a specified field are forced to do customer service without any proper training. You will never receive proper training. Employees are forced to come in on the weekends during December which was not disclosed during the hiring process. Speaking of which, you will not be paid for holidays (but you only have four of those to choose from anyway, and it’s a first-hired first-served schedule). Miniscule mistakes are treated as if they are cataclysmic, unless the mistakes are made by the higher ups! Employees are scared of speaking up, even if their thoughts and opinions are well-informed. The amount of unrealistic expectations is suffocating. On top of all this, the lack of communication is unreal. You would think that the people who own several stores across several states would be able to effectively communicate to their employees, but it’s always a guessing game you can never get right. They constantly go back on their word, and back on that again. Somehow, that is also blamed on the employees. When the higher ups have objectively terrible ideas, employees attempt to calmly explain why it may not be in their best interest to follow through with it — done so with fact and experience based conversation — but it falls on (almost literally) deaf ears. Then, when said idea turns out to have a negative effect, it is blamed on the employees because it’s obviously their fault a terrible idea had terrible consequences. If you have any plans on asking for a raise, forget about it. An employee who had been there for several years — who took on the job of multiple people due to others quitting without notice — only received a ONE dollar raise. Incompetent employees who deserve to be fired are not, even after several complaints by multiple people are raised. Those who refuse to do their job are coddled rather than reprimanded. There is no sense of responsibility from the people who own this god forsaken company. The decisions they make and continue to make should have run this company into the ground years ago. It will be a glorious day when it finally comes to that. If you ever work in the internet department, the bathroom is a great place to cry. Nothing you do here is ever good enough. There is no room for growth, only regression. Your time is wasted here. You’d have a better quality of life cleaning toilets at a gas station. Please find literally anywhere else to work. Your mental health is not worth $16 an hour.
