Pros

They have good benefits, I really enjoyed my coworkers at my campus. Most are good teachers and good people. The district is always growing, so job safety is fairly good unless you don't perform or get on the wrong administrators bad side.

Cons

Professional development was okay. It could be more efficient and practical. The environment is highly political. I have seen many injustices, especially with brand new teachers or veteran teachers. New teachers tend to be the scapegoat for low test scores, so their heads are often on the chopping block. Veteran teachers have higher salaries and in a district where the teacher needs are growing, they'd rather cut a veteran teacher and have enough for 1.5 new teacher salaries. The expectations are crazy high as are class loads. Work-life balance is poor.

Pros

-Love working with the students in HISD -Most coworkers are amazing and passionate about providing access to post-secondary options to all students

Cons

-Instruction from higher up in HISD is often inconsistent, and they deliver expectations and news VERY last minute -There's a lot of disorganization due to being understaffed as everyone is being stretched thin -Isn't room to grow pay-wise in this role; I have to change roles in order to get a salary increase.
