Pros
Opportunity to network with different departments regarding positions. Vacation time is the best. most departments are flexible with hours. HISD seems to thrive off of the who you know versus the work or skills that is performed. If you can become friends with your supervisor, you will achieve the world.
Cons
Salaries for non-instructional professionals are not as comparable to outside the district. Training is not sufficient to corporate training. Leaving the district I find myself outdated when compared to other professionals. Some employees take management positions to the extreme. I am one for completing a task but believe you do not need to be yelled at or degraded when asking for assistance or clarification. Job duties are never consistent with the position applied for. Frequent changes leave employees confused and disgruntled, as less skilled employees are constantly rewarded and promoted for poor performance. HISD seems to thrive off of the "it's who you know" versus the work that is actually performed by dedicated employees. Hard working employees end up overwhelmed and many are found resigning.
