Pros

Howard is an OK place to work if you're there to help the students and not for the money. Many of the folks here are jaded and unhappy and it shows in their performance and how they treat the students.

Cons

Many employees are under paid and they are unhappy as a result. Also, there is a lack of competence in the management of some divisions of the university. Very often, department heads are under qualified and are not very knowledgeable. They substitute degrees for wisdom and common sense. Greater use of the latter would allow a lot more to get done, more efficiently.

Pros

Opportunity to mentor and support students as they learn technical concepts. Flexible schedule that worked well alongside coursework. Developed communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Collaborated with faculty and other TAs in a supportive environment. Gained hands-on experience explaining complex topics to students with different learning styles. Rewarding to see students improve and succeed throughout the semester.

Cons

Workload can fluctuate significantly around assignment deadlines and exams. Balancing TA responsibilities with personal coursework can be challenging. Limited influence over course policies and curriculum decisions. Some tasks can be repetitive, such as grading or answering similar questions. Compensation may not always reflect the time commitment during busy periods. Communication between instructors, TAs, and students can occasionally be inconsistent.
