Pros

Great team! Love the team that I work with, we all work very well together and I genuinely enjoy working with students!!

Cons

If my team has do anything involving larger university offices like the Registrar, Bursar, Enrollment Management, or Financial Aid, nothing gets done or things are very poorly communicated. Policies are outdated unclear and inconsistent or simply not communicated effectively. No one knows what is going on it's like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It's ridiculous. It negatively impacts our students and lower level student support services or advising teams are left to clean up messes created by leadership in these offices! No accountability whatsoever. It is ridiculous what these students and parents have to face at times! Love to support HU and the history, but honestly it has been a disappointing experience to see this much dysfunction at the leadership level. Not to mention enrolling higher and higher numbers of students without investing in staff, hiring staff in offices that desperately need it and improving the experience for students overall.

Pros

Opportunity to mentor and support students as they learn technical concepts. Flexible schedule that worked well alongside coursework. Developed communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Collaborated with faculty and other TAs in a supportive environment. Gained hands-on experience explaining complex topics to students with different learning styles. Rewarding to see students improve and succeed throughout the semester.

Cons

Workload can fluctuate significantly around assignment deadlines and exams. Balancing TA responsibilities with personal coursework can be challenging. Limited influence over course policies and curriculum decisions. Some tasks can be repetitive, such as grading or answering similar questions. Compensation may not always reflect the time commitment during busy periods. Communication between instructors, TAs, and students can occasionally be inconsistent.
