Pros

Pretty good pay, smart people, autonomy

Cons

As the political tensions grew, so did the tensions at Hubspot. You had meetings where you had to talk about how privileged you are for being white, and it was even more-so for white males. This was regardless of your own background, or where you are from. There's an interesting slack channel there called "politispot", which became fueled by emotional rage/hate. You'll see comments in there like "Alabama shouldn't even be a state". "All Trump supporters are racist", or "My cousin/sister/dad is a Trump supporter, I don't know how to react..." with everyone agreeing or not objecting to them. Most of the articles that were posted were essentially click-bait headlines that just riled up everyone's emotions even more. Hubspot brought the outside political environment into work. Oddly enough, most if not all of the folks there are totally fine with blanket statements calling a group of people racist, re-training for white people, and other concerning behaviors. Unfortunately, Hubspot still retains its cult-like reputation that was highlighted in the book "Disrupted". Perhaps, even more disturbingly so.

Thank you for your candor on this topic. It's important employees feel comfortable sharing this kind of feedback with us because our goal is to make HubSpot wholly inclusive, regardless of political affiliation or who employees vote for. So I'm grateful to you for speaking up. We don't encourage employees to discuss politics with colleagues, but we do encourage employees to bring their full selves to work. Employee-created Slack channels like #politispot are a result of that given how tense the political landscape has been in the U.S., and while we care deeply about transparency and autonomy, it's also critical we're creating safe spaces. One thing we said at a recent AMA was that we want to create a workplace where people of all political views can be their authentic selves, but not at the expense of the well-being and psych safety of others, so for example. Said differently, anti-racism work and inclusion is part of our culture that is mission critical, but there's a big difference between standing by that (as we continue to do) and expecting everyone to believe the same thing, which is not our aim or culture. Thanks for the feedback and honesty here-tough to hear, but appreciate your candor. -Katie

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
