Pros

Hy-Vee is a great place to make friends; I’ve worked at two locations and have heard the same from many coworkers, that they’ve made lots of friends while working at Hy-Vee. It’s definitely a social environment, and so many of the people I know from Hy-Vee have become roommates, kept in contact with others after they quit, even gotten married.

Cons

There is a huge disconnect between upper management and managers who are actually on the floor working with the employees personally every day; also a disconnect between upper management and corporate. It seems like sometimes rules are just made on a whim and the people who actually have to enforce things and follow these rules aren’t asked for their opinions beforehand.

Pros

I really enjoyed my coworkers and the management of the store. There were a handful of people who worked there at the time who weren't necessarily my favorite, but overall the team was good.

Cons

There we no significant cons. The pay is not the highest, but these are mainly entry level jobs.

Hy-Vee is a great company that truly cares about the communities we serve. Cons

As a 24/7 retail business, scheduling can be demanding in some roles — though the variety of positions means there's flexibility to find the right fit. With a large, decentralized workforce spread across hundreds of locations, consistent employee communication is an ongoing area of focus and improvement.
