Pros

Work life balance is good. You do your 40 and you are done. The benefits are fine and the job is not super difficult, it has all been done before. It is not rocket science. I have heard this is the best entry position at the IRS.

Cons

It seems like everyone is clueless. When researching something, there is no one source to obtain information. A search using the internal system can lead you in the wrong direction because no one goes through and updates information. The work load can be tough, I am always busy but somehow, there are employees that can spend hours talking and still manage to complain that they do too much work. The training is conducted without the goal of teaching but the goal of saying something was taught. Much of the work seems that way, the focus is on going through the motions.

Pros

-Got me started in my career as an auditor -thorough tax law training -many senior auditors helping you learn the profession

Cons

-communication from management is not always transparent -when you are at the bottom of the ladder, you get verbal abuse from not only POA and taxpayers (understandable, given this is the IRS), but also management/OJI's. They want to look good to their bosses and will throw you under the bus if they have to in order to save themselves. Even if they gave you instructions that got you in trouble. They SHOULD be supporting you in your function as an auditor, but they'll do whatever is easiest for themselves ultimately. -on job training can be disorganized -bureaucratic culture -like many other companies, a lot of things you're expected to learn by yourself. Such as how to avoid POA delays.
