Pros

Fun to work for a large agency that seems to have a lot of promotion or transfer opportunities.

Cons

The union acts like HR and will never protect you if you need their help, I think. If you bring up anything about rude trainers, you'll be retaliated against and thrown out immediately even if it's the holidays, as seen with a former employee. The rudeness by some trainers is off the charts and they are protected even if they make a horrific experience for you which is traumatic. If you complain you will be blamed and told and gossiped about that you are the problem. The upper management gives up on you fast here, I think. There is no compassion for trauma suffered from a horrifically disparaging trainer and if so I don't see it. There's very little respect for Hispanic workers in this office and overall by some of the other trainers. Seemed racism, sexism and persecution if you're a Christian by one trainer, and seemed racism by other members of the staff is allowed. Prejudices and career jealousies are allowed, it appears. And they are allowed to throw out just about anybody if you ask why you are experiencing disparaging treatment. Thrown out without any performance plan, improvement plan, any warning or any meeting of any kind prior to a termination meeting. No chances given if you ask for training that isn't similar to treatment spoken in a concentration camp. Exposed to endless cursing, whining and complaints by some trainers about fellow trainers. The managers will get you to refer all your friends then get rid of you.

Pros

-Got me started in my career as an auditor -thorough tax law training -many senior auditors helping you learn the profession

Cons

-communication from management is not always transparent -when you are at the bottom of the ladder, you get verbal abuse from not only POA and taxpayers (understandable, given this is the IRS), but also management/OJI's. They want to look good to their bosses and will throw you under the bus if they have to in order to save themselves. Even if they gave you instructions that got you in trouble. They SHOULD be supporting you in your function as an auditor, but they'll do whatever is easiest for themselves ultimately. -on job training can be disorganized -bureaucratic culture -like many other companies, a lot of things you're expected to learn by yourself. Such as how to avoid POA delays.
