Pros

Good life-work balance (depending on the team), plenty of opportunities (if you have the push), interesting projects (not always, obviously)

Cons

Different levels of knowledge but not linked to the hierarchy, i.e. you can find technical gurus managed by non-technical people, micro-management. Highly complex environment so any step could be painful because of the red tape

Pros

There are still some great people working there - mainly those remaining from the purchasing of other banks.

Cons

The parent company, Santander, does everything possible to prevent work from getting done. Simple tasks take an exorbitant amount of effort. Software is developed using archaic "technology" called "BankSphere", a bizarre and terribly designed development framework built by the company that takes every step of the software development process and makes it more difficult than you can possibly imagine. Management has no clue how to manage a company, doesn't listen to employees, and constantly make decisions that hurt everyone. Following extremely complicated and ever-changing processes takes precedence over productivity, security, customer experience and the law. The company doesn't value you or your time; you will be expected to work 60+ hour weeks, expected to be available 24/7 and have to fight tooth and nail for your personal time, and they will ignore all of your knowledge and expertise while doing so. You will not advance unless you are a Spanish Male. Women are relegated to project management / secretary work and looking pretty.
