Pros

ITW is huge, and up until about 2019 they were entirely acquisition focused. Everything brought under the ITW umbrella was intended to grow the business purely by increasing the number of fires they had irons in. Corporate is very good at this, and they have nearly limitless resources to make sure these businesses work. You be just about any kind of engineer and find good work here. Corporate is good at turning these seemingly unrelated, distant companies into a coherent business under a single umbrella, and employees are encouraged to use other departments as resources.

Cons

ITW is a holding company that eats up smaller product firms to bring them under a unified brand with the security of a nearly limitless bank account and endless muscle for "turnaround". You don't know what you're getting into when you get hired by a particular division, if you only look at the company average. Some departments are stable and well-loved by upper management, some are "problem children" who get re-organized or moved around multiple times a year.

Pros

Great co-workers; smart people who are dedicated to doing good work. There is a general kindness and everyone seems willing to help each other.

Cons

The pay is low, and everyone seems stretched thin. There is little structure to ensure local leaders follow good practices. Evaluation of performance tends to be highly subjective. There seems to be very little management of the management.
