      Pros

      Working with some of the smartest scientists in the world.

      I've been at Illumina for a few years now. What I've noticed is that in the past year or so, the culture has gotten to be very negative. There are a number of people with anger management issues who continue to antagonize and disrespect employees including myself. HR doesn't really seem to care. We also just found that we won't be getting a bonus. There's also a lot more competition in genomics and a lot of my friends are thinking of leaving because the pay is better elsewhere and because they've reached their ceiling at Illumina. Illumina also does not seem to have a vision for what it wants to be.

      Pros

      Stuck with them for 7 years because it was good back then. Comp is good, benefits are good, and if you're on campus its a nice experience. If you find the right team it can be a dream, but the flipside can be awful. Overall they have a lack of direction in what is turning out to be a highly competitive market.

      Cons

      Corporate bureaucracy and internal politics are strong but could be worse. The benefits were better in the past and all the perks are winding down with time as they tighten the budgets and try hard to pivot away from dying segments
