Pros
The workflow and workload depend on who you work under at the university. I had an amazing research team that was super supportive of my professional development, and everyone was always willing to listen to my opinions and thoughts on particulars within research.
Cons
Not really anything I can think of off the top of my head besides that you have to be vested for 3-years to earn any of the retirement benefits. I would recommend if you do not know about your long term at IU to invest in one of their supplemental retirement plans in case you leave before the vesting period finishes.
