Pros

A lot of down time for self studying. Many opportunities to work with different technologies that you might not ever touch on your own. Access to mentors and learning resources.

Cons

You may not enjoy a particular project or client that you are assigned, and they may require you to learn a completely different tech stack. You could end up being jack of all trades but master of none, or even atrophy in a language you already know.
