Pros
A job to hold you over while looking for other jobs
Cons
Here are a couple of things I wish I knew going into the job : Your offer letter isn’t the end of the interview process.. They fire during ramp - personally watched over 15 coworkers get let go during ramp … some were on a PIP for less than a week. if you’re looking for a good hybrid work balance… this isn’t it. I started when the company was fully remote. 3 days in office (with only a $40/per month transportation stipend). Expectations are to arrive at 8 am and leave after 5:15 pm.. without a doubt Instawork will be moving back to a full 5 days by EOY. On top of the mandatory return to the office, the majority of their offices don’t have enough seats to accommodate - reps are having to work from the kitchen and common areas. When you’re lucky enough to get a desk… the sales team sits adjacent to founder/upper management. Who constantly monitoring and interjecting while you’re on calls with prospects making it extremely distracting. This is a fear-based sales org… quotas are increasing as the demand for temp labor is decreasing .. you will work 10 hours per day on average for capped commission and mediocre money (lucky to hit 100k per year including base). Micromanagement: The sales team is not allowed to use call boxes because it’s “not instawork’s company culture”… calls are to be made at your desk alongside 15+ other reps like a call center. Expect live sales loft calls and recorded gong calls to be monitored 24/7. “Unlimited PTO”… it’s contingent on management approval (aka even if you’ve exceeded monthly quota… good luck) Management morals are dodgy … an individual on my team was expecting his first child and upper management strategized to have him fired at the end of the month so the company wouldn’t have to pay for his health insurance for the following month Constantly changing commission structure based on shifts completed. Given the spike in layoffs the need for temp labor has dramatically decreased. You’re given an oversaturated market (with usually 6-7 other reps overseeing that market) making it extremely difficult to find new business… going after the same scraps for chump change All reps (not just those on PIPs) are required to do “sales performance trainings” where you waste 1-2 hours of valuable work time midday playing supervised role pay over zoom . No safe Covid policy: If you’re immune compromised or extremely covid conscious this job is not for you. Management turns the other way when reps in the office test positive failing to inform the rest of the office of being exposed (having everyone in the office sick or not is more important than the health of employees).
