Pros

- A real commitment to education and professional development - An almost academic atmosphere (difficult to find re: DoD work) - A lot of fascinating subject material, for the most part - Good range of tasks and personnel, from hard sciences to liberal arts-types - Great reputation in the industry and the region - Very stable

Cons

- Even with a shuttle service to/from the Pentagon, not the most convenient location - Can get mired in the bureaucracy and inside baseball endemic to the Pentagon - One often must find work for themselves among tasks within a division - Not as much of the "liberal arts" stuff as one might hope - Hard to advance especially far without a PhD

Pros

Very smart people across a range of STEM disciplines Freedom on what you get to work on Relative lack of office politics Interesting exciting projects available

Cons

Hard to think of a con. Every place has its own flavour and IDA CCS Bowie like anywhere else, isn't for anyone. I'm not positive either way about IDA's budget/hiring situation these days, with all the stuff going on in this general space. It also can be easy to find yourself getting lost when it comes to finding a good project if you are not careful. But even that is a bit of a reach.
