Organization with great potential - if only the president were to exit - Manager Institute on Aging Employee Review

Pros

The mission - helping seniors and adults with disabilities get the services they need.

Cons

Very toxic working environment. As long as the president Tom Briody is there attrition will continue to be high. He does not trust his key senior leaders to do the job they love despite their commitment to the organization. He has fired or pushed out many great leaders. Instead, he relies on gossip, lacks the very basics of good management including how to conduct a fair evaluation, and treats males and females differently. His lack of trust, inability to gauge risk, and unapproachable and intimating attitude trickles down to other levels of management like a cancer, creating a finger-pointing and siloed working environment. It’s unfortunate because the organization has much potential but will never truly be a great place to work until he exits.

Pros

Great nonprofit mission, pleasant office location

Cons

Incompetent management, toxic personalities, and wasteful spending make this a dramatically unpleasant place to work. Stay away if you value your time and peace of mind.
