Pros

Unfortunately there are no pros to working here. If you're offered a job, be sure you received a higher-level title change. That's the only thing this company is good for. It's a stepping stone. Get your title change and get out as quickly as possible. With how poorly management runs this place, you should level up fairly quickly from 'falling-up'.

Cons

Everything. I'm surprised this company is still in business. Management here is horrible and there is no work-life balance. If you are offered a job, be sure you are getting paid top dollar, ask for their pay bands. There is no compensation equity across the company. I'm very excited for CA Law to pass so they must post their pay-bands on their job descriptions and internal employees can see how under-paid they are. HR has openly discriminated and will not hire people of color or those with even the slightest accents. During my time there, I worked with one manager who was demoted and cycled out of two other "managers". Manager is a light term here because people are promoted for no other reason then it's cheaper to promote within than to higher externally into the position. Also keep that in mind. If you're promoted here, you will still be under market rate and likely don't have the experience to succeed at another company because there is no training structure. There is no onboarding structure. When I was there, my now demoted manager forgot to put a request for my laptop. I had to work the first week using my personal laptop. There are also no SOPs (standard operating procedures) to reference for training. The attrition here is so high, no one lasts long enough, or cares enough to put a training SOP together. How this place in business is an anomaly to me.

I feel very grateful to the Institute on Aging for giving me the opportunity to join such a wonderful team.

Pros

Great nonprofit mission, pleasant office location

Cons

Incompetent management, toxic personalities, and wasteful spending make this a dramatically unpleasant place to work. Stay away if you value your time and peace of mind.
