Pros
You can discreetly use the photography equipment at your leisure while you are working and you are mildly trained for photography. The opportunity to socialize with the management, students, and parents of said students should get mentioned. When you aren't dealing with problematic individuals, it can be a rewarding experience.
Cons
The work hours and pay are erratic and not sustainable. One day you could have to be at a school by 10 am. The next day you may need to be there by 5:30 in the morning. Adding to this, there is a lot of driving necessary and little compensation for your vehicle. You will likely not get a break for anything for extended periods of time while on the job. You may get to a school around 7am, and be standing taking pictures until 4pm without and time to eat lunch or even sit down. On times you do have to relax while at a school, you are trained to keep working one other things in the software. Management will not help you, you must help you. They only care about their relationship with the school. You are but a picture taking turret and will be treated as such. You will have to put your foot down and ask for more compensation should you think you deserve it. The software used, Camdex and Schooldex, are atrocious and confusing. It creates problems with jobs and is a learning curve for new hires. New hires, which you will have to accommodate should you work more than one year/season there. You will likely not get compensated for doing this. There are ridiculous "rules" to follow while on the job that actually make it more difficult. I hear some territories are pushing for new methods of payment tracking using bar code scanners that impedes the in field workers like myself. There are also people higher up pushing for arbitrary photography techniques that are good in theory, but fail in practice. One of these techniques include not using the viewfinder when taking a picture.
