Pros

This review ONLY applies to the fiber-side of procurement (both in Virgin and Recovered Fiber sectors of the industry): -Excellent compensation (in the fiber procurement sector) EXCLUDING health insurance -They make reasonable accommodations (i.e. work from home) -Highly professional culture - low occurrence of low-class/ inappropriate behavior

Cons

-Is overly politicized and fairly easy to commit career suicide - sometimes without even realizing you did! You need to have tact & be familiar with the skills associated with the "dog & pony show". A silver tongue w/ a can-do and positive attitude are required for most people to advance to certain levels in the company. Just being good at your job is not in itself enough to soar with this company - you have to develop your soft skills although there have been a few old-school hold-outs that made it pretty far up in the ranks prior to the progressive HR agenda being implemented. Just like ANY OTHER BIG CORPORATION, there are unspoken social rules that are unethical & hypocritical (double-standard) that one must play by in order to advance IN CERTAIN AREAS of the company. Not all areas require these unspoken soft skills to advance consistently. -Health Insurance benefits are scant while premiums are high (this may not be a criticism of the company benefits as much as it is a criticism of the current health insurance and medical regulatory environment. Packages are largely unchanged from when I started back in 2012 - but what did change was the premiums doubled between 2012 - 2018 for family while the coverage remained stagnant. Obamacare is to blame for the premiums while IP is to blame for not adapting and remaining competitive by carrying the weight of the premiums - further premium hikes now get passed to the employee. -Match pay on 401K is marginal - average is around $.60 on the dollar for the first 8% (it isn't terrible but I've seen considerably better)

Pros

Benefits were fairly decent when I was there. PTO was pretty generous. Pay was decent enough, along with a Bonus at certain pay levels. Many of the people I worked with there were outstanding - although, most of them are gone now. They did retain a few subject matter experts, most have left or leaving - but I guess it's a possible pro they might not cut your entire department..

Cons

The Cons are the new 'wonder boy' CEO. This puts most of the 'Pros' here on shaky ground. The new CEO - Andy Silvernail, is a ruthless cost cutter. I would expect as/if the stock continues to drop - other benefits, people, or pay will be gouged - like they did the entire IT department. Andy was making big stock promises when he started up, but it was clear from the start, his only concern was the stock price. I still talk to some people they did retain or forced over ("rebadged" - such a terribly soulless word for it) to the new MSP. Every single one of them is at their wit's end. They are hemorrhaging what's left of IT in the company and all of the deep knowledge with them. It WAS a great place to work - now they report working 60+ hours a week trying to make up for the incompetence of the new MSP. At least one of them told me that he has dealt with more downtime and high priority problems in the last couple months, than the previous 15 years there. So if you are considering a job in IT at this company - in any capacity, expect to work long hours with no real path or possibility for advancement.
