Pros

There are opportunities for exposure to many areas of work and technology. Potential for much global travel, if that's appealing to you...

Cons

Most management have a very old-school mentality, have had very little, if any, mgmt training and have very limited exposure to best practices outside of this industry. The HR organization is non-functional and does not provide any support in this area. The company is extremely de-centralized and there is little coordination or cooperation between the 20+ lines of business or the hundreds of sites. Strategic planning to Intertek means deciding what they will do for the next 6 months. It is singularly focused on month-to-month financial performance and appeasing the investment community. Internal communication is virtually non-existent with almost NO communication or leadership from the C-level.

Pros

Good group of people in local office.

Cons

Stuck in the past. Unwilling to consider updating methods or procedures. "We've done it this way for 30 years and it has worked." Sales relies upon project engineers to do most of their work for them. When volume of work is slow that becomes the engineers responsibility to go find new clients. Can't reliably pay the most basic of utility bills on time. I've seen the power cut off 2x and the gas this past winter.
