Pros

•Nice corporate campus for that area of country. Work-out facilities, cafeteria for breakfast/lunch, etc. •Although quite cyclical, at times good bonuses for corporate employees (30-40% on a good year). •Lax policies in some ways such as internet usage, free days off, etc. •In the field, lots of autonomy and can "be your own boss" largely. •Overall, stability/job security - while not employee friendly, very successful in trans/innovation.

Cons

Compensation •Low salaries to begin with – maybe semi-competitive for industry – but in general low. •Your first salary will be a function of what you always earn – don’t expect much after that. •Archaic rules stipulate how much of a raise anyone can receive (usually <10%) oRan like a small company – requires President’s signature for any salary increases over 10% oEven if you are “promoted”-expect a couple thou $. Doesn’t matter what anyone else makes. •In reality, there are no pay bands. They claim they have some on the books, but refuse to make them public. HR is nervous to discuss them.Never know what job might be a promotion, lateral, etc •Employee benefits are the first (rather than last) resort when trying to cut costs. Career/Personal Development •Different from most Fortune 600 companies, JBHT does not encourage inter-department mobility. oIn fact, they not only “don't encourage it”, they outright discourage it. Once there your almost stuck. oThe exception is field ops w/ DCS – not glamorous but some of the better jobs in company. •Few skills acquired outside of basic management - making leaving very difficult. •Lots of nepotism within the ranks.

Pros

Good pay for the type of account. Salaried position. Some weeks I may only work one or two days, 8-20 hours. Other weeks I may work 60-70 hours. Great for a single guy if you don't care about a social life.

Cons

Never know what kind of schedule I would have. Changes constantly. Basically an on call truck driver.
