Pros

JBS is the largest beef company worldwide. Top management knows how to make money. The corporate headquarters is a decent facility and there are some very competent and hardworking people there.

Cons

I spent a little time in the tax department at JBS USA’s corporate headquarters. Morale in that department is low and turnover is incredibly high. Most employees in the tax department stay 2 or maybe 3 years MAX. Many stay only 1 year or less. People always ask why the turnover there is so high. There are various reasons, but mainly it’s the culture of the department: one of hostility, distrust, fear, unrealistic expectations, no appreciation, harsh criticism, and ultimately, pure dysfunction. Intentional or not, this culture has been created and fostered by the department head and her confidant (and apparent BFF). The duo of department head and BFF, both of whom have been at JBS way too long, have driven the department into the ground. It’s no accident that most of the people in the JBS tax department are transplants from outside Colorado. The reason is that the JBS tax department has a terrible reputation in the greater Denver area. Very few tax professionals in the area are willing to work there. Upper management knows what is going on but won’t do anything about it.
