Pros

The mini Sephora inside JCPenney is a fun place to work, especially if it's a second job. A higher starting salary than freestanding Sephora, the option to use tester makeup before and after your shift, and a 25% discount on all cosmetics, skincare, fragrance, AND all JCPenney merchandise was great. Gratis wasn't as good as I've heard other places (about 10-12 free products not of your choice every 6 weeks) but hey, free makeup! And the option for a monthly group bonus was nice too, rather than individual sales goals. Seemed like the possibility of moving up was pretty easy.

Cons

I was hired into a leadership position (operations consultant) after only 1.5 years retail experience so that made me think they were desperate for employees. Turns out I was right! In my 11 months there I saw three different beauty managers and almost an entire staff turnover. There was never any talk of a pay increase and we made out monthly group bonus just once. Because we were short on staff, I had to stay late quite often then was chastised for going into overtime. The JCPenney upper management didn't seem to care much at all about our department, we were pretty much left to take care of everything ourselves. Biggest complaint, I was given too many operational tasks than I was given time off the floor to complete.
