Pros

This job is on commission, so it was a good way to make a slightly better salary while staying in retail. It is also beneficial if you're interested in design and decorating, because you have the opportunity to help customers design window treatments for their homes. The training provided by the company was very good. I had the chance to attend several paid training days by the window covering companies when I worked there for a year. They would provide us with snacks, lunch, and prizes as a bonus. When our window covering department outperformed the other stores in district during a contest, we would get to go out to a nice restaurant to as a prize. I think we had 3 or 4 meals out, and one was at an upscale steakhouse. This can also be a good job while you're in school, because my manager worked around my school hours and let me work part time.

Cons

It is still retail, so you're on your feet a lot and ringing up customers from other departments. We were expected to make high sales, yet we were required to spend time ringing up customers buying clothes and other items which did not count towards our sales. The commission was also not very good. Usually it would work out to be a few dollars an hour above minimum wage. Due to the nature of commission sales, my co-workers would often get competitive and even catty. There was a lot of gossiping and complaining about "stealing" customers from each other. Each week our sales were ranked in order by the managers, so there was a lot of pressure to compete with each other. We were also always required to work both Saturday and Sunday. It was very difficult to get those days off. This is why it might be a good job for a college student, which was my situation while working there.
