Solid consulting firm with interesting projects, decent culture, and decent pay - but usual consulting downsides - Project Manager Jacobs Employee Review

Pros

Huge variety of interesting, niche projects. Can work with teams and projects all around the nation and world. Good compensation for the industry.

Cons

Billable targets always an axe hanging over your head, and constantly staying billable leads to various undesirable sacrifices and trade-offs. "Unlimited" PTO mostly means time off is a mystery. Management at certain performance units can be short-sighted. Distributed nature of teams and management makes it hard to discipline egregiously underperforming employees (we had a team member blow our project but could not discipline them as they worked for another office). Some project teams are grossly disrespectful of work/life balance.

Pros

Love the culture and the people.

Cons

The health insurance no longer covers GLP-1 or other weight-loss related medications (specifically excludes them), which I find appalling. They did cover it, but then removed coverage for all company plans. The benefits of weight-loss and obesity-related medical coverage are so high for employers and yet Jacobs decided not to care about their employees who need them.
