Pros
-Work experience is largely defined by who your manager is -Truly good, friendly and intelligent coworkers and a close little community (more among associate/mid level employees) -Depending on the team and role, it's pretty relaxed environment which allows for creative liberties and work-life balance -Competitive pay for certain jobs -Benefits (no 401K matching) -Cool office, catered food 3x a week, nice location in Culver City, dogs -Fun company parties and events -Unlimited PTO, which can be a double edged sword since it's at your manager's discretion :)
Cons
-Work experience is largely defined by who your manager is -Everyone outside management is underpaid for what they do, there is no set salary tier based on job title, they are not transparent about salaries and management does not encourage being transparent about it. -Casual workplace sexism - from microaggressions to replacing women who were leading specific projects/initiatives with guys who have literally never worked on it. -A serious "boys club" issue, because diligent employees who have been carrying the team get passed over constantly until they get frustrated and quit. Then the managers who have been "unable" to promote anyone for that role can suddenly hire their friends for it (often lacking experience managing people, or even working in games.) ***They refuse to promote from within even if you're already doing the work*** -Management throwing people under the bus. A lot. -Management that has BEEN problematic and received HR complaints see no repercussions, leading to high turnover rate from everyone working under them. They proceed to hire people new to the industry and the same issues happen. Then they leave quickly. Rinse and repeat. -Employees raising concerns get flagged for "bringing down the morale of the office" - way to miss the point, guys. -Toxic game industry stuff from management, including manager asking employees to do overtime and not log it "if they want to make it in games you have to put in the time" mentality, and belittle employees for requesting vacation time off and compared to another employee who barely took time off, working extra hours because their work visa was being held over their head.
