Pros
Cannot overstate this: my early years there were honestly filled with joy and fun and stupid jokes and a lot of laughter. To this day, my former JV coworkers are some of my best friends, and I look back at my time there for the first 3.5 years fondly and with nostalgia. Unlimited PTO was a godsend, and the work-life balance was fantastic.
Cons
There was a lot of time and money spent on projects that ended up languishing in the cupboard due to internal disagreements. While many reviews mention the strong bro-y culture, there's also a deep sorority culture at JV that comes from the top: if you're a single femme with no children, you're going to need to work hard to get an in with many of the higher up women. The company shifted direction continually, to the point where it felt like the ship barely left port in any meaningful way. Many companies have these types of issues, and honestly, many of the perks made it highly tolerable. However, in my last year and a half there, management got crueler and crueler in their dealings with long-serving, well-performing employees. MANY of us were suddenly put on PiPs and then let go due to "performance." This happened before the great downsizing of January 2020, and continued until at least early 2021. Lest this seems like one bitter former employee's opinion, I want to emphasize that this happened to at least six different employees in different departments, many of whom were die-hard, company-spirit-havers. I've spoken to many of them at length, and we all share feelings of betrayal and having been gaslit. Is any of this information helpful to potential employees? I hope so. I also hope it's helpful for other former employees to whom this happened (and to current ones who might also be going through this.)
