Pros
Good career progression and great support from senior staff in development of knowledge and skills. Senior staff constantly spend time with junior engineers to help educate and assist with their development. Company wide mentoring program with each new engineer paired with a senior engineer who mentors and assist the new starter in their development. Early opportunity to get involved with wide range of projects and go out of the office to meetings, workshops and site visits. Very good social working environment with friendly and young team. The team get on very well and make the job very enjoyable often socialising outside of work and typically all going to the local pub on a Friday. Constant opportunity to work with all members of the team rather than specialist small groups. This allows engineers to pick up new skills and ways of working from a large number of experienced and knowledgeable staff. Opportunity to work with colleagues in other offices and also potential to complete secondments in various offices across the group. Recently acquired by Jensen Hughes which has resulted in an improvement in the IT facilities and further access to technical resources and staff in the US.
Cons
Company formal social events have reduced since originally joined the company. As with most construction related jobs can result in long hours and in order to meet client deadlines. Senior staff generally good at keeping on top of workloads and distributing work although there is no formal flexi-time policy in place. Fairly basic benefits package in comparison to other companies and primary focus on salary. Office facilities fairly standard and can get very warm in the office during the summer.
