Pros

There are endless opportunities to grow and learn at Jobber, but most of all you really have the opportunity to make an impact within the organization, within the community, and within the market of home service providers, i.e. the economy. Every startup has its growing pains, but they're approached in a really great way at Jobber. There is a certain level of trust that exists between employees, and it allows for really productive, thorough, and thoughtful decisions and discussions. No matter who you are in the company, if you bring an idea to the table, that idea will be heard and considered. Leadership is incredibly supportive, trusting, and provides a high level of autonomy to employees. The company is invested in promoting diversity and inclusion, and supports a bottom-up approach. There are a lot of employee-led initiatives that provide for a more supportive and inclusive workplace and community, and it's heavily supported by leadership. The team strikes a great balance of fun and hard work, and there is a really great spread of experienced and entry-level employees, so there is plenty of experience to teach and learn, depending on your experience level. In a short period of time you can also learn and gain a ton of experience due to the nature of the business. If you're interested in growing in certain areas, there are certainly opportunities to learn more and gain experience, whether that's in your direct position or outside of work. Because there is quite a bit of growth happening, there are lots of opportunities to grow and lead, whether you're in an official or unofficial leadership position. The product itself and community of customers offers a really rewarding aspect to working at Jobber because you're directly impacting and helping people in small businesses be successful. Customers care a lot about the product and our team and we care a lot about them. Beyond the free food, the ping pong, free computer, great vacation, there's a really great culture that consists of the super supportive team of people who are kind, supportive, hard working, and really hard workers. Leadership cares a lot about the team, and it shows heavily. There is a lot of transparency from leadership as well, which helps you feel more invested in the company.

Cons

As mentioned, any startup has its growing pains and we need to constantly be evolving and learning how to work better together, with new ideas, new people, new strategies, and new opportunities. Those things are all challenging, so if you're not up for a bit of unknown, changing direction from time to time, and change in general, it might not be the best place for you. For me, it keeps work exciting and challenging, but that's not for everyone!

Pros

Not a single positive during my time at Jobber

Cons

- Leadership has ZERO strategy to compete against the other players in the market. - Way too many convoluted processes that slow everyone down - They will recruit you from another company and then let you go with absolutely no notice or reason

Pros

It's really a great business with a great product and product reputation. Work life balance is good. Honestly, I don't even mind the RTO mandates as long as it stays hybrid - the Toronto office is great. Some of the home-made tools being developed to speed up development with AI are actually pretty neat.

Cons

The culture in Engineering is turning really sour. I get the impression they're slowly trying to eliminate the People Manager role, which is "fine" until you realize that they have no interest in helping you grow and advance your career here. It's really sad to see, especially for those of us earlier in our careers who do want to move up and stick around long enough to see ourselves AND the business grow. They're trying to eliminate 1-1s under the guise of productivity and shipping out faster and getting managers more involved in dev work. And it does not look like the managers have much of a say. For the most part, you're seen as a replaceable code/feature monkey. Turnover is increasing, especially with those tenured, senior folks, and I don't think they care. Another issue I've ran into is the varying skill level of engineers. There are great engineers here. But, there are some engineers here who just entirely vibe code. And that behaviour is highly encouraged and seen as "impactful" in some teams. Well don't come crying when incidents have increased over the last 6 months then? To be fair, it is entirely team-dependent and some teams have a higher calibre, some lower.
