Pros

Half decent perks and a nice office. Some genuinely nice and cool people work there Clients are 90-95% good people.

Cons

Garbage management. Constant turnover of managers. Zero cohesion between departments that should have essential communication. Basically, congrats for you if you were hired 2+ years ago or got recent management. All anyone else gets is vague promises that "despite tech circumstances, we have no plans for lay offs" woop dee doo, could change any day. Especially when wage reviews are stingy, unclear, and made out to make you feel stupid for not knowing brand new policy no one was briefed on. Customer support is ridden hard. Expect zero real support from your superiors. It is quantity and numbers over quality. You will be lucky to have those few experienced staff on queue to help keep things in reign and not make you feel awful, but no one is going to extend any olive branches to you, you are on your own. Go ahead and post a real complicated question to your peers asking for help and watch the crickets sing. Take that question to your manager and watch them stumble over their words and get simple issues wrong because they don't know anything about real tech issues. After all, they were hired more recently than you. Forget tier 2, you've already sent it to them and recieved some BOGUS answer that basically passes the poop puck onto you, for you to force feed it down the clients throat. Have fun dealing with quickbooks errors up the bum - constant calls from customers with baseline zero tech ability. Its just the industry, no grudge against them, the clientele are 95% good people, but they are generally morons. A garbage sync system doesnt help. Their whole phone apl was built on mucky infrastructure and they had to rebuild. The release rocked their whole user base and support was left shovelling the manure. Wow, an unber eats voucher for recognition. What a joke.

Pros

Not a single positive during my time at Jobber

Cons

- Leadership has ZERO strategy to compete against the other players in the market. - Way too many convoluted processes that slow everyone down - They will recruit you from another company and then let you go with absolutely no notice or reason

Pros

It's really a great business with a great product and product reputation. Work life balance is good. Honestly, I don't even mind the RTO mandates as long as it stays hybrid - the Toronto office is great. Some of the home-made tools being developed to speed up development with AI are actually pretty neat.

Cons

The culture in Engineering is turning really sour. I get the impression they're slowly trying to eliminate the People Manager role, which is "fine" until you realize that they have no interest in helping you grow and advance your career here. It's really sad to see, especially for those of us earlier in our careers who do want to move up and stick around long enough to see ourselves AND the business grow. They're trying to eliminate 1-1s under the guise of productivity and shipping out faster and getting managers more involved in dev work. And it does not look like the managers have much of a say. For the most part, you're seen as a replaceable code/feature monkey. Turnover is increasing, especially with those tenured, senior folks, and I don't think they care. Another issue I've ran into is the varying skill level of engineers. There are great engineers here. But, there are some engineers here who just entirely vibe code. And that behaviour is highly encouraged and seen as "impactful" in some teams. Well don't come crying when incidents have increased over the last 6 months then? To be fair, it is entirely team-dependent and some teams have a higher calibre, some lower.
