Pros
- The vacation policy is solid if you're senior enough. - The salary is competitive in Canada. - Work/life balance is good as the work itself isn't super hard. - The mission generally feels good if you focus on the actual small businesses that Jobber helps.
Cons
Jobber has changed a lot in the last year and is no longer what it is advertised as. In my time at Jobber I've witnessed a lot of firings that surprised everyone. One day jobber fired many devs at once "due to performance" but many of those devs had no warning or indication their performance needed improving. There has been a general sense of job insecurity since that happened. Managers don't action concerns so you end up stuck in a cycle of the same problems. There are many layers in Jobber that seem very ineffective at communicating upwards. ie: as a developer, there are 5 layers between you and the CTO, so it ends up being a waterfall of orders and mandates. In engineering, a handful of engineers have been there for a long time that constantly gatekeep any innovation and need to approve all decisions and technical projects. Meanwhile, these 4-5 engineers often have their own new engineering initiatives in-flight that are half-implemented and a constant source of slowdown when trying to ship code. I genuinely liked my initial timeat Jobber and now I really couldn’t recommend it to engineers of any level.
