Pros

Great name recognition. Excellent educational opportunities and benefits package. At least in my group it's a very "hands off" approach to management. Very flexible schedules.

Cons

Non-line management has a ridiculous amount of favortism. No way to break into the clique if your an independent engineer. Tons of middle management, some of which are very technically savvy; however, a lot seem like your typical "pay for the rolodex" types. The most secret thing at the lab is how pay is decided upon and distributed. Dilution of classification...I worked hard to make Senior, others cruised in with "time in previous job" and produce nothing.
