Pros

Met some wonderful families, got a solid reference for resume

Cons

- I was there for 6 months, worked with at least 15 different families, and made less than $3k over the whole time period - would book a month of 40hr weeks, then watch most of them get cancelled because of confusing and chaotic scheduling system. - was told I could expect 40 hours a week, never once worked a 40 hour week. Ended up working 7 hours per week on average - Jovie and parent company Bright Horizons only do back up care, but we’re unclear about that in initial interviews and mislead many of the families I worked with about the consistency of care they could expect - Jovie pays $20-25 an hour when the average for my area is $30 - scheduling app would frequently show wrong names, addresses, phone numbers, and ages of children. Had to balance bookings on app and bookings on unrelated website, both required for working at Jovie - spent hours every week booking and confirming appointments with clients, preparing my bag of activities and books for children, all of which was ultimately unpaid labor but necessary for job - had several families ask to have me back for consistent care (20+ hours a week), but rarely ever saw these families again - got multiple 5 star reviews from families, but could not see them myself which made it hard to get references from families and reviews for my care.com profile - limited opportunities for professional development, no opportunity for promotion - was told there would be health insurance during initial interview. There wasn’t. - expected to go to work sick… with small children and infants… in a post covid world… with no insurance…….. this is a recipe for long covid/chronic illness/burnout - do not waste your time here. You are worth more than Jovie will give you.

Pros

I've worked with Jovie Newport Beach since 2022. I started as an on-call nanny and worked my way up into administration. I am now in charge of recruitment, event coordination, and general management. I love the company culture and encourage families to use our services and for potential nannies to apply! I have met many great people through the Jovie network! It has been great!

Cons

I can't think of any cons!

Pros

Help find you a family to work with. I could see how this could perhaps be great for part time

Cons

LOW PAY for the job. After 3 years with Jovie, I was getting paid $16/hr and my full-time family was paying somewhere from $26-28/hr. They told my nanny family I was getting higher raises than I was. MUCH fairer companies out there. No PTO due to "not being salaried employees" even though that's not how PTO works! Constantly nagged about logging in my hours even though I was always on top of it. Going through them was a pain. Don't recommend. Always wondered if why they rebranded from College Nannies and Sitters was to try to separate from all the negative reviews.
